“Since 1967, International Literacy Day celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.”
International Literacy Day holds great significance for Ludejo. We are a translation and communication company with a mission deeply rooted in accessibility and inclusivity. Ludejo’s core mission, “The provision of information and knowledge in such a way that all people can understand it, regardless of what educational levels they have, what culture they come from, what religion they profess, which disabilities they have, or what language they speak,” aligns perfectly with the principles celebrated on this global observance.
Here are a few reasons why International Literacy Day is of utmost importance to Ludejo:
Promotion of Literacy for All:
International Literacy Day reinforces the importance of literacy for all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds, abilities, or linguistic diversity. Ludejo’s mission resonates with the idea that everyone, regardless of their educational levels, should have access to information in a format they can comprehend.
Advocating for Inclusivity:
The essence of International Literacy Day lies in advocating for inclusive education and communication. This observance underscores the importance of ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
Empowering Through Accessible Information:
Literacy represents a potent instrument for fostering empowerment. International Literacy Day emphasises the transformative potential of education.
Ludejo is a sponsor and proud partner of CLEAR Global. CLEAR Global is a not-for-profit organisation that helps people obtain important information and be heard, regardless of the language they speak. With innovative language-engineering solutions, research and a community of more than 100,000 people, CLEAR Global supports partner organisations working in different contexts across the world. CLEAR Global was founded to improve global communication and access to information for all people, including those living in poverty and in war zones.
Contributing to Global Development Goals:
International Literacy Day underscores the role of literacy in achieving global development goals. CLEAR Global’s mission is inextricably linked to these goals, particularly in areas such as poverty reduction, improved healthcare, and enhanced economic opportunities. By promoting literacy and accessible communication, Ludejo actively contributes to these broader objectives.
In this context, this year’s International Literacy Day will be celebrated worldwide under the theme, ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’.
Under this theme, ILD2023 will be celebrated at the global, regional, country, and local levels across the world. At the global level, a conference will be organised in person and online on Friday, 8 September 2023, in Paris, France. This global celebration will include the award ceremony of the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes to announce this year’s outstanding prizewinning programmes.
